I am still in full Moana party planning mode over in these parts! Invitations are going out in about a week, my Kakamora are done and I have a plan for some Tamatoa cupcakes.
I wanted to add some girly flowers to the party room to keep things bright and tropical and some super simple tissue paper flowers will fit the bill perfectly.
You will need:
Tissue paper (6 sheets per flower)
I started by using 5 yellow sheets of tissue paper and 1 red stacked on top of each other. Then fold into an accordion along the entire length of the sheets. I folded along the shorter edge. I try and fold them perfectly even but when I get to the end it’s always all uneven and crooked. This doesn’t have to be perfect to look pretty!
When fully folded, twist a pipe cleaner around the centre of the accordion. Choose a colour of pipe cleaner you would like for the centre stem of your flower.
Cut the ends of the accordion into a nice shape. I just rounded mine off but you could also cut them into a point or fringe the ends. These flowers will be about the size of a dinner plate so don’t be shy about chopping off some tissue.
Open up the accordion folds and point the pipe cleaner up. I have the single red sheet on top and the 5 yellow sheets below.
Start unfolding and separating one side of the tissues, folding them upwards towards the pipe cleaner.
To create the centre of the flower I bunched the red sheet into the middle around the pipe cleaner. Fluff the tissue paper to be as fluffy or we flat as you like. Twist the pipe cleaner to look more “flower centre-like” and that’s it!
Now all you need is a party table to set them on. These will look great on our Moana themed table and hopefully make it through a 2 hour party full of 5 year olds. Have fun making your own!
