I am always on the hunt for sneaky and creative ways to trick my two year old into eating more fruits and veggies. Unlike his older sister, he has zero interest in anything that isn’t bread, meat or dairy and it gives me anxiety thinking about all the nutrition he could be missing out on. Take away the foods he is allergic to and I need to get creative… even try bribery to get some fresh foods into him.
I decided I would try and sneak some fruit into a Spooky Smoothie in a fun Halloween to ramp up the healthy food intake as well as ramp up some excitement for Halloween.
There is nothing super special or different about this smoothie, but it is kid friendly and “Spooky” for its dark purple colour from the blueberries and blackberries.
You will need:
- Handful of blueberries
- Handful of blackberries
- Handful of ice
- 2 big spoons of vanilla yogurt
- Orange juce
Toss everything into a blender and blend well. Add as much orange juice as you like or to taste. For my older child, I can make the smoothie thicker and she has no problems drinking it. My little one gets frustrated so I thin his out with more juice and it’s a touch sweeter which gets him drinking more of it. If your kiddos don’t like too much texture or seeds, swap out the blackberries for something else or just add more blueberries.
I bought these fun double walled, 8oz smoothie cups with cute Halloween patterns at Walmart for $1.98 each. I having a special drink in a special cup is like a huge win for my kids so I get these cute cups for every season and switch them out as needed.
And the smoothie was a success. He didn’t finish it but he did enjoy a lot of his drink and I felt a little better that some fresh fruit got into his belly!
I hope you enjoy some Spoooooky Smoothies this Halloween!!
