Today I am sharing a few simple tricks I have picked up from our recent RV trips as well as a few I have learned from years of RVing with my parents. Some are super simple and some will require some trial and error to find what works best for your RV and setup.
Laundry Basket Trick 1
I have 2 handy laundry basket tricks. The first trick is something my mom made us stick to. Everything you want to pack needs to fit into one large laundry basket. That is clothes, toys, toiletries, books, shoes etc. It takes up less space to do a load of laundry than to bring along 10 pairs of pants you aren’t going to wear. I make exceptions for coats and boots. We always like to bring some rain boots and a warm jacket at any time of year. You never know when mother nature is going to pull a fast one on you.
Laundry Basket Trick 2
Bring along 2 folding laundry baskets. Use one to collect laundry. Where do you store it when you are limited on space? In the tub. It’s easy enough to move out of the way when someone needs a bath or shower and if it gets a little wet, it’s no big deal. I use the other to keep clean towels in one place.
Layering the Bed
When you are low on space to begin with, nothing eats it up like blankets and comforters. And I can never fold them up the same way twice. I avoid having to stuff and cram them into my precious storage space by making the master bed with ALL of the blankets and pillows and then neatly cover them with the bedspread so that everything still looks neat and tidy. At bedtime I simply hand out pillows and blankets as they are needed with no need for additional space.
I admittedly haven’t perfected my vertical storage in the trailer yet, but I do have one tip that has been saving us lots of space and mess in our cupboards. These vertical closet cubbies are perfect for storing socks, under pants and undershirts while RVing. We do not have any drawer space for clothing so this has been a perfect solution for keeping our unmentionables organized and accessible. We keep the kids on the lower section and the adults on the upper section. I also store my hair dyers and straighter in a cubby as well.
I hope some of these tips are helpful for your next trip. If you need an RV packing list check my free RV Packing List HERE. Happy Camping!
