Like most families we spent most of our days in the living/family room hanging out, reading, watching movies and playing. It also feels like the centre of our home because of our cozy fireplace. The fireplace mantel is always my starting point for any type of holiday decor. Once I have it all put together, everything else seems to fall into place.
Wayfair.ca asked some bloggers to share their Holiday mantel decor and I jumped at the chance! This year I wanted to try something new and work with fresh greenery while incorporating some of my favourite holiday decor. I will be sharing how I put the greenery together to make a fresh garland in another post, but this is how the mantel came together. I am so happy with the final look!
Working with fresh greenery, especially if you are able to cut some yourself, is very affordable (or free) leaving some room in your holiday decorating budget to add some really beautiful items that you can use from year to year or even season to season.
Adding some simple wired ribbon carried my red and green colour scheme which I have throughout our home for the holidays. The magnolia branches adds some amazing texture and I love the brown underside of the leaves. To add some anchor pieces I purchased two giant pinecone picks and faux winter berry picks.
Two simple silver lanterns sit on top of some books wrapped in brown paper for height (My favourite trick for decorating filler) and my go to tartan stockings hang from either side. I love using these on the mantle because they hold their shape so well and really fit my more traditional style.
Over the mantle hangs my trusty DIY Burlap Wreath which I use almost all year. I dressed it up to match with a simple bow, a few magnolia leaves and a sprig of spruce.
And what Christmas fireplace is complete without a huge poinsettia!? This was a lovely gift from my father-in-law who knows how much I love Christmas!
Do you love the look of traditional holiday decor? Wayfair.ca has some great finds to help create your own traditional holiday mantel. I have linked some of my favourites below.
If fresh garland isn’t your thing (I get it, it’s a bit messy), Wayfair.ca has a huge selections of Garland and Wreaths.
If making your own burlap wreath isn’t your thing, this wreath HERE would be lovely. It also comes in a variety of festive colours to suit your look.
I love the stockings we have, but I may just love this one HERE more! It is currently sitting in my cart! I am a sucker for anything with a ruffle and this would be easy work with many decorating styles. LOVE! The stocking HERE is similar to the one I have. I love the pop of green in this one.
I hope you enjoyed a look at our traditional Christmas mantel!
Merry Christmas and Happy Decorating!
