Mother’s Day is this weekend and I am late getting something together for 2 super special ladies in our life. Running late seems to be the theme of my life lately!
I thought a homemade keepsake would be nice to give Nana and Grandma this year and since I am on a big decorative plate kick right now, I decided the kiddos could design their own. This project is fairly simple yet has the potential to be a complete train-wreck if your kids can’t be trusted with a paint pen. My kids are not to be trusted with paint pens.. like ever… so I was watching like a hawk.
You will need:
Paint Pens (I got mine from Walmart for $14.97)
Plates (Mine were from Dollar Tree for $1.25 each)
Plate Stands (2 pack from Dollar Tree for $1.25)
Newspaper to protect your work area
Nerves of steel because you are about to trust your kids with paint pens
Make sure your plates are nice and clean and super dry. Neatly write your message on the plate and let dry thoroughly. You can end the adventure here if you decide you don’t want to do the paint pen/kid thing. I won’t judge!
Next cover your area with lots of newspaper, take a deep breath and hand the paint pens and have your kids scribble and draw a message or design on each plate. Let each plate dry thoroughly.
Pop your plate on a stand and present this to the special Mom, Grandma, Nana, Aunt, Step-mom in your life.
This method is is for decoration only. Many ceramic paints allow you to bake your dish to make your design food and dishwasher safe. Check your paint package instructions and make sure you are using oven safe dish wear.
I hope you have a great Mother’s Day with your moms, partners, kids, grandkids and wives! Happy Mother’s Day!
