In our house I always like to go a little over the top celebrating holidays both big and small. While I have an extensive collection of decor for Christmas, fall time and Halloween, my Valentine’s day stash has always been lacking. This year I tried my hand at making my own heart shaped tulle wreath. It’s fairly easy and inexpensive to make yourself with a few supplies you can easily find at a local dollar store or department store.
What you will need:
Wire wreath form. (I found mine at Dollar Tree)
3 rolls of indoor/outdoor tulle in various colours (I found mine at Walmart for $3.00 a roll)
Front panel of a cracker box (Weird, I know)
Ribbon for hanging (optional)
The first step is to cut the tulle into 6″ squares. My tulle was already in 6″ rolls, so what I did to make my squares was wrap my roll of tulle around the panel of a cheez-it box which was also 6″. When the tulle is wrapped, cut along the edges to make squares.
Gather the tulle square and using a lark’s head knot, loop and secure the tulle along the wire frame alternating your colours.
The reverse side should look like the image below. I worked from the top down trying not to crush the tulle too much.
Working section by section, work your way to the bottom of the wreath frame.
It took me about 3 hours to complete the entire wreath. When you are finished, make any adjustments that might be needed and fluff the tulle. Hang from a door hook or command strip. Attached ribbon for hanging if desired.
I attached a ribbon to mine and hung it from a command hook left over from Christmas. I love how it looks and how easy it was to make. I am already on to #2 as my four year old is asking for one for her room!
Enjoy making your own!
