In March we took a short 2 night trip to Great Wolf Lodge, Niagara Falls for a couple of days of fun as a family. The resort and water park were just amazing. Below we are sharing our top 5 reasons why you should visit Great Wolf Lodge soon. And with a ton of locations and more opening soon, there my be one not too far from you!
Beautifully Themed Resort and Accommodations
I LOVE me a themed accommodation and Great Wolf Lodge does not disappoint. Themed like a rustic northern cabin, you are totally surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. The lobby, also called the “Grand Living Room”, includes a beautiful 3 story fireplace guarded by a wolf pack who howl to you every few minutes.
Across from the fireplace is a seating area that resembles a rustic cabin in the mountains.
In the centre, “The Forest Friends”, a moose named Moe and Mother Bear welcome visitors and interact with kids telling jokes and reminding little ones of what events are coming up later that day.
Speaking of events throughout the day, there are plenty with many taking place in the Grand Living Room. Kids and adult yoga, crafts, bedtime stories, character meet and greets, and my kids personal favourite, the nightly dance party. More details on daily activities HERE.
We booked a Wolf Den Room and the kids went bonkers for the bunk beds and TV in their own little den! It was well worth the extra cost. They really thought this was the coolest thing ever.
Every room has a balcony which would have been more appreciated if it wasn’t snowing but I still spend a few minutes out there just to make sure it got some use! It includes 2 chairs and small table.
I always forget to take a picture before everything turns to a mess…
Huge Water Park with Attractions for All Ages
Obviously the water park, right? Ok the water park is amazing. It’s a hot 84 degrees inside which is welcome after 5 months of snow. The rustic forest theming is also alive and well here. If you forgot anything or decide you hate your swimsuit, a full swim shop is located inside selling everything from suits to towels to earplugs.
Life jackets are provided (20-90lbs) but are on a first come first served basis. That being said, we had no issues finding one when we needed it.
My kids were all over these small kid slides. They were perfect size and the pool they slide into is very warm and shallow enough for them to clear the bottom area on their own.
The wave pool was also a huge hit. Lots of fun waves with a fairly shallow pool. There are also plenty of life guards but this is no replacement to making sure your kids are within arms reach.
We didn’t take a ton of slide pics because we were too busy riding them ourselves. To get an idea of height requirements the link HERE outlines who can ride what.
Also good to know, towels are provided in the water park. Feel free to bring your own if you want. We did!
WE LOVE MAGIQUEST!
More information HERE.
We purchased a MagiQuest package for our older child but both kids (5 and 3) had a blast with it, even if only 1 understood what the premise of the game is.
Basically you get your wand at Quest Cottage (in the gift shop) and wand topper and quest belt and explore the hotel while completing quests in your quest book. This means you travel around parts of the resort and pictures, lights, screens, treasure boxes and statues will interact with you via your wand.
The goal is to collect runes which will help you in more difficult quests.
This is our kiddo getting a quest started.
Making the squirrels talk to her via her wand.
This was super cool and a really great way to spend time when you are not in the water park. This worked great for us because we have a little one who needs a nap, one grown up watched the napping kiddo while the other took older one on a few quests to pass the time.
It was worth every penny.
Lots of On-Site Dining Options and VERY Allergy Friendly
Great Wolf Lodge has a dining plan but we did not purchase one. We just grabbed something when we wanted to.
I am always on edge when it comes to eating out with our son who has multiple food allergies. I am happy to report that Great Wolf Lodge not only met my sons dietary requirements but totally blew my expectations out of the water. I will go as far as saying, they exceeded the high Disney standard I am used to.
They were absolutely fantastic and so thorough.
We decided to pack some easy breakfast foods because we knew the kids would be too excited to eat a big breakfast before the water park. So a few yogurts and muffins we brought from home fit the bill just fine.
We enjoyed some coffee and pastries from Canoe Coffee in the morning which was located just outside the lobby.
The buffet “The Antler Shanty” had everything well labelled and we also got a full walk through with the chef to review each offering and if they were safe for our son’s allergies. We really appreciated all of the information and that there were so many healthy options he could choose from.
The food was also really good. We didn’t ever feel like we were at a water park when we went to eat.
In the water park there is a snack shop you can grab some easy options like burgers and hotdogs and eat poolside. A great choice if your hungry swimmers don’t want to go back to the room and get changed. There is also a full service bar if you need a drink!
Large Arcade with a Large Variety of Games
It’s no secret we love an arcade and the arcade at Great Wolf Lodge is great. There is a huge variety of games, many games which are easy for little kids to play or versions sized for little ones.
The kids played for hours and brought home some awesome prizes.
Good things to know:
- You can bring your own life jackets and towels.
- Pool toys are not allowed in the pools.
- If you aren’t sure what slides and attractions your kids can go on, there is a staff member at the front of the water park who will measure them and give them a colour coded bracelet.
- If you have food allergy questions, each location has an email address on its website to make contact with the dining staff. I received a reply in less than 24 hours.
- You will receive an RFID wrist band which is your room key, charge card and slide photo link (just like a Magic Band)
- All rooms have a mini fridge and microwave if you would like to bring a few food items with you.
