If you are just tuning in let me get you up to speed. I am participating in the $100 Room Challenge which was created by Erin over at Lemons, Lavender and Laundry. It’s a really fun and creative challenge to make over 1 room in our homes with $100 dollars in 1 months time. Here is Week 1, Week 2 and Week 3. We will be revealing our rooms next Wednesday!
It’s a good thing March has 5 weeks because this week’s DIY wall art projects were imploding left and right. I had a couple of fun wall decor ideas, including a DIY yarn Juju hat inspired wall hanging that seemed good in theory, but ended up not coming together at all. No matter how many adjustments and changes I made, there was no fixing my DIY fail.
After going into panic mode twice, I settled on making a simple ombre painting which can live on the wall for now until we either make some changes to it and give it some more polish, or replace it altogether because we found something that just screamed “I need to live on your bedroom walls!”
You will need:
Craft Paints (I already had these so it cost me $0.00)
Foam Bruch (Already had one $0.00)
Canvas ($4.00 from Michael’s)
2-3 minutes of your time
Start by mixing your darkest colour and mix a good batch of it. You will end up wasting some paint with this project for sure, but it’s an easy DIY.
Paint sweeping stripes down your canvas making each stripe slightly lighter as you go by adding more white paint to your original batch. There are no rules here. Make it as blended, or un-blended as you like. As many stripes as you like, as light or dark as you like with as many colours as you like. By this time I had enough DIY excitement so I stuck with a simple pink colour scheme.
This is the finished product. I am quite happy with it considering I day before I was panicked on how to replace my failed juju inspired wall decoration. I think I may add to this one day but for now I am going to enjoy it this way.
We have also hung up all of our art work and wall decor now. We hate hanging things because we hate putting holes in the walls. After my search for perfect wall hooks came up empty for this project, I decided to use command strips to give me the flexibility to change out the artwork out very easily with no damage to the walls.
I decided on Command Damage Free Picture Hanging Strips. They were the perfect size and can hold up to 3lbs which none of my frames came close to. It’s wall velcro! I can totally handle wall velcro. The application is easy and gives you a little wiggle room for adjustments of you hang something just slightly off centre.
My handy husband helped me measure and tape off where I wanted to hang my frames and made sure everything was nice and level.
Well I am going to leave it right there. I wouldn’t want to give too much away before the big reveal next week! If you are following along, make sure to check out some of the other room makeovers my new blogging friends are working on. I am sure you will find a ton of great ideas and inspiration!
